DuPont-Brunner deal points to digital flexo standards

DuPont Imaging Technologies has signed an agreement with System Brunner of Switzerland to enhance the accuracy of Eurostandard Cromalin contract proofing for offset printing, and establish similar standards for other print processes.
‘We have been working with System Brunner since 1979. The resulting Eurostandard Cromalin proofing standard has become one of the most widely used in the commercial printing environment for both digital and analogue proofing applications,’ states Ralph Bates, Marketing Manager, Proofing at DuPont. ‘With the increase of ‘computer-to’ technologies in all forms of printing, it is now time to advance the accuracy and relevance of our proofing standards.’
System Brunner has been a market leader for over 30 years in the definition of industry standards for color definition through the development of sophisticated process control and quality assurance techniques. The integration of its Instrument Flight system - for accurate press fingerprinting - into the Cromalin standard will be one of the highlights of the new agreement.
Paolo Barbieri, head of DuPont Imaging Technologies in Europe, states, ‘Our new work with System Brunner will be particularly beneficial to our Cyrel flexo customers, who do not have the benefit of color standards across their industry.’
The System Brunner Instrument Flight System provides a simple ‘star’ system to reflect the accuracy of a proof against the final printed result. It automatically scans a patented control strip, printed on the side of the signature, and gathers readings to allow more than 30 printing parameters to be evaluated. The control strip uses a unique zebra design, which has high- and low-density patches next to each other to increase densitometer accuracy.
