Winners named in Pro Carton ECMA Award 2014 program
The winners in the latest Pro Carton ECMA Award program have been confirmed, with a record number of entries for the various categories up for grabs.
Top prize, Carton of the Year, went to Fernanda Brandao, with further ‘special’ awards given to an advent calendar and pharmaceutical packaging.
The Confiserie Reber Advent Calendar entry with innovative carton inlay claimed the Sustainability Award, with the judges praising its use of a spirally cut cartonboard inlay to hold the sweets in place, replacing the use of polystyrene. It was produced by Mayr-Melnhof, using material from Stora Enso.
The Most Innovative prize went to Artelac Splash Dispenser (Display), again produced by Mayr-Melnhof, this time using material from Iggesund Paperboard. The Artelac Splash Dispenser (Display) was also named as the winner in the Pharmaceutical category.
First place in the Beauty & Cosmetics category went to Pleats Please L’Élixir, produced by CD Cartondruck using Sappi substrates, while Shelf-Ready & Display honors went to the Peppersmith Clipstrip entry by The Alexir Partnership on cartonboard manufactured by BillerudKorsnäs.
The Non-Food and Volume Market accolades went to the VIVA Bottle-Hänger and eggbox 10er Hofer Goldland/Freiland entries, produced by Bayer Kartonagen and Cartonic Packaging Group using BillerudKorsnäs, and Careo and Papierfabrik Adolf Jass substrates, respectively.
The chosen Food category winner was the Gelato Box entry, produced by Pringraf using cartonboard from Stora Enso and Cartularia, and featuring design elements created using the Highcon Euclid, while Confectionery category winner was the Multiflex entry, as produced by PAWI Verpackungen on Papeterie d Mandeure cartonboard.
A final award went to the Jim Beam Honey Promotional Packaging entry in the Beverages category.

Prizes in the Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2014 contest were also presented, with two entries sharing the glory in that grouping of six shortlisted cartons.
