Avery Dennison introduces woven edge tape made from 100% post consumer waste

Avery Dennison has developed a polyester woven edge tape that is made from 100 percent post consumer waste derived from recycled plastic bottles.
Created to meet the needs of textile apparel brands and retailers, 3002T is the first recycled woven edge tape of its kind to receive third party supply chain accreditation, Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1 approval, and feature thermal transfer and wet ink print capability. The satin tape can be printed on both sides and is designed to complement sustainable apparel solutions.
‘3002T is a high performance recycled polyester woven edge tape that combines the soft handle and luxurious look associated with an Avery Dennison woven edge product with an environmentally friendly label solution,’ explained Mike Brown, market development manager, In-Plant Printing, EMEA & South Asia. ‘Avery Dennison has taken great care to ensure that it also benefits from a valid, credible supply chain.’
The new tape is the latest addition to Avery Dennison’s growing range of eco-friendly trim solutions, which also includes price-neutral organic cotton and recycled polyester woven labels, water-based PVC-free heat transfers, and recycled tickets and certified paper tags that can carry Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. FSC shows that the tickets and tags have been produced from responsibly managed forests.
3002T was developed to dovetail with Marks and Spencer’s corporate sustainability strategy, Plan A – a five year 100 point commitment to address social, environmental and ethical challenges.
Kim Phillips, head of GM packaging for Marks and Spencer, commented: ‘We’re delighted that Avery Dennison has developed an innovative recycled polyester woven edge tape, 3002T, which meets our environmental requirements without compromising on quality. We look carefully at the materials in every area of our business and use only those like 3002T that come from the most sustainable sources.’
