Sandon launches HOW and HVP anilox engraving technology

Runcorn, UK-based Sandon Global Engraving Technology Ltd has launched two new engraving processes for anilox rollers that give enhanced ink transfer and performance when printing combinations of solids, tints, line and text work.
The HOW engraving process enhances the quality and capability of printing high volume solids, while at the same time, allowing text to be printed. The technology optimizes ink transfer and is designed to provide screen-printing quality on high opacity UV flexo whites. Benefits include improvements in ink coverage and opacity levels, better ink evacuation and reduced pin holing, clean-up and ghosting.
The HVP engraving is a specialized process for anilox rolls that enhances the quality and capability of solids, fine text and tints. John Millington, technical director of Sandon Global commented: ‘This is a truly versatile anilox system that can be sited throughout the press. Using combination plates, this radical engraving technology gives the printer more on-press color availability and reduction in set-up costs. Screen counts ranging from 160 l/cm to 400 l/cm are available. These anilox rolls deliver precise volumes of ink to print a variety of solids with the control of fine screen counts. The engraving gives a smoother solid while having the capability to produce intermediate process print. Through improved print latitude, it is possible to reduce anilox inventory for the future.’
Established in 2004 by operations director Nigel Hedges Sandon, Global Engraving Technology services the label and flexible packaging industries as well as the corrugated box and coating markets. The latest technology for the production of laser engraved ceramic rollers has been installed at its manufacturing operation in Runcorn, Cheshire where an in-house engineering service is available for repairing and cleaning anilox rolls up to three meters in width. The company continues to grow by offering a high level of quality and service and at the end of its first year in business was awarded the Celebration of Success Award from Business Link, Greater Merseyside. Sales and service support is provided worldwide through a network of distributors trained to provide technical expertise to customers with full backing from the Runcorn location.
