World first claimed for insulated beer can label

Multi-Color Corporation, in conjunction with DuPont, has supplied Labatt Brewing Company with an insulated label system for their 473 ml Labatt Blue Pilsener can. The Labatt Blue Cold One was released in Canadian markets in May 2005.
Unlike traditional beer cans, the Labatt Blue Cold One is coated with a DuPont Cool2Go wrap, providing a thin thermal barrier that protects the beer from warm hands, condensation and rising temperatures. Once chilled, the insulated wrap keeps the beer colder longer than a conventional can.
Multi-Color Corporation played a key role in the launch of this new package by creating a specially designed shrink sleeve label. Produced at Multi-Color's Scottsburg, IN facility, the labels are rotogravure printed using a unique shrink material designed to maximize the insulating properties of the package. The bold colors on this label represent the long-standing Labatt brand, highlighted by silver metallic inks to achieve the refreshing appeal of a cold beverage. The pre-press work, inclusive of separations and cylinder engraving, was performed at Multi- Color's Graphics Services facility in Erlanger, KY. The labels are applied at Alliance Labeling in Oakville, Ontario.
