MD Labels installs third Mark Andy hybrid press

The first Mark Andy hybrid started operation at MD Labels, a converter based in Kalisz, Poland, in 2018 and helped grow the company's production capability. It was joined in 2022 by a second hybrid, this time a Digital Series HD. The third press, also a Digital Series HD, started production this year. All three use a combination of flexo and UV inkjet technology.

MD Labels’ co-owner Marcin Jasinski said: 'These presses are the ideal response to market needs that are constantly changing. Today's consumers expect more high-quality personalized products at affordable prices. The market also demands shorter print runs or different versions of the same product and label. With Mark Andy presses, we have the right technology to meet these challenges.'

The Mark Andy presses have helped secure new orders and customers for MD Labels. In addition, they have allowed the company to grow its workforce and expand its total production capacity.

Jasinski added: 'The Mark Andy Digital Series offers multicolor printing, including white, as well as VDP and versioning. This produces premium labels that can be highly embellished, metalized, transparent or printed on decorative paper – and from one copy to short- and mid-runs.'

Lukasz Chruslinski, Mark Andy sales manager for Europe, added: 'Digital technology in label production brings huge opportunities and capacity for the food and other industries, especially with changing market conditions and a developing business environment.'

Diet-Food, a Polish health and organic food manufacturer, has established a partnership with MD Labels that covers the production of all its labels. Diet-Food was established in 2013, and its current portfolio covers more than 300 different products, nearly 90 percent of which are organic. Its products use the highest quality raw materials from various countries, such as Brazil, Peru, Romania and China.

'Among other things, these exceptional ingredients give our products their unforgettable taste and unique character,' said Michal Szafarz, co-owner of Diet-Food. 'We deliver them to the Polish domestic market as well as to many countries around the world, even exotic ones like Dubai. As a result, we make healthy food available to many people on a global scale.'

Diet-Food’s partnership with MD Labels dates back years, but its entire label requirement is now supplied by the Kalisz-based company.

'It’s a really big challenge,' Jasinski said. 'We always do our best to make our customers’ products distinguishable on the shelf – after all, it’s consumer choice that impacts our customer’s success in the shop. So, our labels must be of the highest quality while meeting the very different needs of brand owners. We can only achieve this because of the investment we have made in Mark Andy hybrid presses.'

Szafarz confirmed: 'Having MD Labels as a business partner allows us to offer a high-quality and eye-catching product. In our industry, short delivery times are also very important, so packaging must be manufactured and labeled very quickly. Our cooperation with MD Labels, and the hybrid presses they use, guarantees fast delivery of ready-to-go labels. Chruslinski concluded: “What’s most important from our point of view is that MD Labels bases its production purely on Mark Andy hybrid technology. Grandma's Jam House, a family-owned producer of artisanal jams and jarred goods, has invested in Epson ColorWorks on-demand color printers to enhance its precision and customization in product labeling.

Printing hundreds of small-batch labels daily for its various jarred goods – jams, jellies, pickles, salsas, jars of honey and more – the company sought out Epson for a technology it could rely on to produce labels with vibrant colors and custom designs that reflect the heart of its brand.

‘Our previous label printer would have banding issues, and no maintenance, troubleshooting or customer support could fix it,’ said Tony Kanagy, manager at Grandma’s Jam House. ‘The labels would deteriorate and fade very quickly and have lines through them, diminishing the perceived quality and appearance of our time-honored products. After investing in thousands of dollars of equipment with no improvements, we needed a solution we could rely on that was going to make high-quality color labels without costing too much.’

The company approached Kenco Label & Tag for help, where it was referred to the ColorWorks CW-C6000A color label printer, which delivers up to 4in labels and print speeds of up to 5in per second to accommodate its short-run batches and versatile line of products.

With up to 1,200 DPI resolution, the CW-C6000A produces images comparable to pre-printed labels and features an auto-cutter for easy job separation.

‘We are very happy with our ColorWorks printers because they integrated easily, are easy to use and they consistently print high-quality color labels in a short amount of time,’ shared Kanagy. ‘We can hit “print” on a job of 1,200 labels, walk away and not have to worry and be pleased when the labels are done, knowing they are accurate and of great quality.

‘An added benefit is that we no longer take up space with piles of pre-printed labels that would ultimately go to waste due to fading or end up wasting labels due to required re-prints. In addition, the remote printer management function has allowed us to spend more time in other production areas rather than supervising the label printing process.’

The business's logistics department has also used the ColorWorks printers to create shipping and courier-specific labels to help ensure accurate and timely deliveries.

‘The ColorWorks printers are flexible powerhouses, each with added features and functionality tailored for a range of labeling applications,’ said Stevi Sterns, product manager at Epson America. ‘Efficiency, quality and customization are crucial in labeling operations, and we are thrilled to provide the technology to help Grandma’s Jam House confidently improve its product labeling while maintaining the high standards that its customers love.’

Konica Minolta Mechatronics, Konica Minolta's production site for digital printing systems in Japan, has achieved its goal of procuring 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources. Consequently, all of Konica Minolta Group’s global production sites that manufacture MFPs and digital printing systems (excluding those of toner) have achieved the goal of procuring 100 percent of their electricity from renewable sources.

Konica Minolta Mechatronics manufactures digital printing systems, Konica Minolta's main products. It continues to realize 'production DX,' which combines on-site capabilities — based on production technologies and skills refined in the production and assembly of imaging, optics and precision parts — with digital technology, including automation of production lines.

Konica Minolta Mechatronics installed a solar power generation system at its head office in 2021, which provides about 13 percent of the electricity required by the head office plant. The company attained the goal of procuring 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by purchasing and applying non-fossil certificates with tracking at its four sites in total, including the head office plant, in FY2024.

Konica Minolta has been working to reduce CO2 emissions and has steadily produced results. In 2009, Konica Minolta formulated 'Eco Vision 2050,' a long-term environmental vision. In May 2023, it launched a new vision to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions from the product life cycle by 2050, increasing its goal from an 80 percent reduction.

Konica Minolta is also a member of RE100, a global leadership initiative that brings together businesses committed to sourcing 100 percent renewable energy for their operations. Konica Minolta’s net-zero targets were validated by the SBT initiative, an organization that works to achieve the Paris Agreement, in July 2024.

Konica Minolta brings Christmas joy to Yorkshire kids

Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) has helped to kick-start the festive season by volunteering at the Candlelighters Christmas Party.

Candlelighters provides support to families dealing with children's cancer. Earlier this year, it was named the children’s charity of the year at the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards, which recognizes the bravest and most courageous children and young adults, as well as the charities that support them in the region.

Each year, the charity hosts its Christmas Party, helping bring festive joy to families affected by childhood cancer and make precious happy memories. Once again, Konica Minolta joined other organizations, including its partner Intuitive BI, and other volunteers, to kickstart the festive season for around 60 families.

Held in Bradford, the party was packed with games, activities, stalls and entertainment that included Champ the elephant (the Candlelighters official mascot), Super Mario, Mickey Mouse, Anna and Elsa from Frozen, characters from Star Wars and of course a visit to Santa’s grotto.

Marie Woodhead, partner marketing manager at Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK), has been volunteering and fundraising for Candlelighters throughout the year, participating in its Ready Steady Cook challenge and coordinating Konica Minolta’s chocolate egg and toy donations. Woodhead commented: ‘This was my first time attending the Candlelighters Christmas Party and the team and I found it an afternoon of pure joy. Seeing the children light up meeting Santa, dancing with their favorite characters, and even booing the Grinch was truly heartwarming. It was an honor and a privilege to be part of this beautiful event.’

Environment, social and governance partner at Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK), Gillian Anderson, said: ‘We are very proud of how the team has seized the opportunity to dedicate their volunteering time, to support our chosen charities throughout the year. Everyone involved has helped to have a positive impact for the people in their communities who need it most.’
