Domino introduces new electric pallet labeler

Domino has launched Mx350i-eP, a new Mx-Series electrically driven pallet labeler that boasts a suite of smart technological enhancements that allow for safer operation and improved efficiency while reducing overall energy and air consumption compared with traditional pneumatic technology.

The new Mx350i-eP is part of Domino’s electric range of print and apply label applicators, which build on existing Mx-Series technology by delivering electrical applicators with motion paths in the horizontal and vertical planes to suit a wide range of product and palletizing applications.

Domino said that electrical applicators are a significant improvement from pneumatic applicator technologies that offer a substantial reduction in overall energy and factory air requirements.

‘In the global logistics industry, where millions of pallets are shipped every day, the need for effective labeling for traceability and identification of products as they move through supply chains has never been greater,’ said Sharmil Ghouse, global head of TTO and P&A at Domino. ‘As demand for print and apply labeling continues to grow year on year, businesses are also prioritizing sustainability, seeking energy-efficient pallet labeling technologies that align with their environmental goals while protecting worker safety, and enhancing operational efficiency – we have developed the Mx350i-eP with these demands in mind.’

The Mx350i-eP has been designed with new intelligent technological enhancements that allow for operation without the need for additional safety guarding. This allows for easy integration onto pallet labeling lines and easy operator access to the machine.

Features include a new applicator arm, designed to reduce pinch points, and built-in collision detection functionality to automatically stop and safely move away in the event of a collision or failure.

The Mx350i-eP’s applicator requires up to 40 percent less energy and up to 50 percent less factory air than previous generation pallet labelers. Each labeler is also 60 percent lighter and has a 40 percent smaller footprint than previous models.

The flexible arm applicator with individually controllable joints provides a wide range of motion for labeling on the front, side, or back of full, half, or part pallets. The flexible arm also allows for variance in pallet location, with the ability to search for a pallet by up to 100mm in any direction along the horizontal plane of application. An optional camera system within the label applicator provides the capability to check and verify codes on labels for accuracy and reliability.

Alongside the Mx350i-eP, Domino is also introducing a new print and apply unit for flexible box labeling, built on the same concept – the Mx351i-eC – which requires up to 80 percent less energy and 90 percent less factory air than previous generation box labelers.

Identification specialist Brady Corporation has launched a new BradyPrinter i7500 for 76mm core label rolls, which automatically adjusts all of its settings when new consumables are loaded.

According to the company, the approach in most industries to high-volume, high-precision thermal heat transfer 76mm core (3in core) label printing to date has been ‘set it up and don’t touch’. Crucial for traceability and compliance yet difficult to set up and calibrate, the 76mm core label printing experience has been a pain point for many manufacturing, electronics, electrical and laboratory industries.

Brady addressed those problems with a new proprietary printer model developed to redefine the 76mm core label experience.

‘The new BradyPrinter i7500 does not require users to adjust sensors, heat settings, define label dimensions or waste labels in calibration,’ said Ömer Adisen, product manager for benchtop printers and software at Brady Corporation. ‘We call it LabelSense. The technology reduces the frustrating trial and error of manual printer calibration to print readiness in just 40 seconds. That includes loading Brady consumables, designed so they can only be loaded the right way.’

The new BradyPrinter i7500 with LabelSense technology makes high-precision 76mm core label printing more intuitive, and efficient without the need to maintain multiple printers just to avoid the classic consumable and calibration hassle.

‘All optimal settings are already preloaded, and the printer automatically recognizes every Brady consumable. The i7500 offers considerable print flexibility by enabling users to switch from printed circuit board labels to rating plates, raised profile labels and cable sleeves or between relevant specialized laboratory labels in just 40 seconds. Even when loading the tiniest 3.18mm QR-coded labels, the i7500 prints the first label right, reducing waste and supporting sustainable label printing practices,’ added Adisen.

In addition to auto-calibration, the new device can print 76mm core labels from any manufacturer in manual mode.

When combined with Brady Workstation label design, the software instantly recognizes the dimensions of loaded Brady consumables for fast and intuitive label creation. In addition to label design protection, Brady Workstation also includes an easy scan-to-print app and a data automation app to print labels at the right time with the right ERP-system data. The BradyPrinter i7500 supports print languages like ZPL and can print labels via other label design software.

Bixolon Europe has launched the XQ-840ll integrated all-in-one tablet and desktop label printer, developed to enhance label printing and improve the productivity across a range of sectors and functions including retail, manufacturing, hospitality and healthcare.

The XQ-840II printer supports diverse labelling needs across a number of industries. In retail, it can help with store management and weigh labeling. Within hospitality environments, it can enhance food safety labeling. Healthcare applications include improved pharmacy and asset management; while in manufacturing, the device enhances inventory tracking, materials handling and facilities management.

The new printer integrates a GMS (Google Mobile Services) certified 8in tablet, with advanced security features and touchscreen functionality. Its auto-focus camera enables barcode scanning; while 4 GB RAM and 64GB flash ensure fast data processing.

The XQ-840II prints at speeds of up to 6in/sec (152 mm/sec) at 203 DPI and allows users to develop Android apps leveraging the open-source nature of the OS. The printer supports media roll diameter of up to 130 mm, with optional auto-cutter and a peeler for high volume operations that supports higher productivity.

The XQ-840ll has been engineered with a space-saving and waterproof design, and runs the Android 13 operating system and provides a high level of manageability for a diverse range of applications through the Google Play Store.

Catapult Print, a labels specialist established six years ago, began 2025 with investment in new machinery. This investment will help the company continue scaling up after achieving a 60m USD turnover in 2024.

This past year, Catapult onboarded more than 80 new customers while maintaining a customer retention rate of 98 percent. It grew by 40 percent in a market that contracted by 20 percent in 2024. The company now aims to reach 70m USD by the end of 2025.

Catapult's new machinery includes a second Com 500 Coater machine, ordered from Ravenwood. This machine will enable Catapult to double capacity while maintaining rapid order fulfillment as it continues to grow its customer base and throughput. Aligned to Catapult’s Linerless+ proposition, which offers a choice of traditional or glue gap linerless labels, the new machine has been specified with glue gap technology to provide flexibility for both options.

The advanced Com 500 Coater enables the simultaneous application of pressure-sensitive adhesive and UV curable silicone lacquer, with a Nordson adhesive pre-melting and delivery system that allows for to up to 12 slot heads with screw adjustments for glue stripe widths. It can accommodate variable line widths from 3mm to 45mm, and slits and rewinds multiple lanes into finished reels, in a single pass. With a coating speed of up to 130 m/min, the new coater supports Catapult’s technology-led production efficiency, and silicone is cured instantly via the UV curing system.

The latest Com 500 Coater model ordered by Catapult further enhances efficiency with a new silicone wheel support air shaft to speed up changeovers and a new laser micrometer to allow for enhanced glue weight specifications.

Alongside the new coater, Catapult is investing in an additional rewind machine. Supplied by Ashe Converting Equipment, the new Opal turret slitter rewinder is Catapult’s fifth rewind machine, which, including its two coaters, gives the company a total of seven finishing units.

The new machine will complement an end-to-end system for Catapult’s 26in Nilpeter printing press, allowing the company to deliver at high speed and maximizing widths to maintain lead times and pricing.

These new machines follow equipment investment and innovation that saw Catapult become the first company in the US to install the Nilpeter 26in 9-color printing press with die station in 2024, enabling faster printing of pressure-sensitive labels, linerless labels and narrow-web films. The Nilpeter FA-26 machine had never been specified or built before, and Catapult worked collaboratively with Nilpeter to develop a machine that provides live production data in real time, which overcomes the potential human error of manual inputting, while delivering efficiency and accuracy benefits.

All eight of Catapult’s Nilpeter FA-Line presses will be fully integrated with Nilpeter’s Digital Shadow technology, enabling the company to collect and analyze data to advance efficiency, customer service, quality and sustainability. Digital Shadow allows Catapult to monitor metrics such as machine uptime, energy consumption and waste reduction in real time. The machines will all be upgraded simultaneously, with Catapult and Nilpeter working collaboratively to take all eight presses offline in a meticulously planned and delivered operation.

The investment in equipment continues Catapult’s approach to harnessing the potential of technology and data to achieve a more efficient and quality-driven print process, providing cost and lead time benefits for customers. It builds on the company’s Crystal digital system, which generates live data on every job. This enables Catapult’s customers to access accurate reports every 1-3 hours, with real-time visibility on orders, stock holding and production.

Catapult’s continued investment and market-focused approach to giving customers what they want resulted in record months for the company during Q4 of 2024. In October, Catapult achieved a 25 percent increasein revenue as compared to October 2023, which was 5.8 percent up on the company’s previous best-ever month. Then, in November, the company broke its own records again.

Since its foundation in 1996, Karlville has built a business headquartered in the US with facilities across Europe and Asia. More than 3,200 of its machines are installed worldwide.

‘It’s important that every ancillary supplier matches the quality of our brand, and that includes prompt and responsive after-sales support,’ commented John Price, president of Karlville. ‘Vetaphone came with an excellent reputation from many leading manufacturers in the market. The TL-800 model requires two corona stations – one in each unwind section- and both need extractor fans and exhaust ducting to work at maximum efficiency. The Vetaphone equipment specified includes VE1H-C(C4)920 corona treater units and iPM200 generator modules. The treaters are single-sided and fitted with ceramic electrodes with roller faces of 920mm.

The generator has an 8kW power output and automatically controls watt density accurately by following the line speed. It has a zero-speed switch and automatic start relay that protect the RD62UR standard blower fan that Vetaphone also supplied, as well as an optional ozone eliminator.

‘The TL-800 is an environmentally friendly machine, with no VOCs, odor or any health issues, making it suitable for the food and personal care sector.
