Excelitas publishes 2024 sustainability report outlining new strategy

Excelitas has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, detailing the company's sustainability achievements, initiatives and performance from last year while identifying its greatest impact areas.

The advanced technology provider, which serves global market leaders in life sciences, advanced industrial, next-generation semiconductor and avionics sectors, underwent significant transformation in 2024 by integrating its various businesses and acquisitions under One Excelitas and updating its Purpose, Mission, Vision and Values.

'We have clarity about who we want to be as a responsible business and a plan for how we will get there,' said Ron Keating, president and CEO of Excelitas.

The company's new sustainability strategy focuses on six priority themes divided between growing its handprint and reducing its footprint. The handprint initiatives include enriching life through innovative products that improve human safety and quality of life, and building a high-performing team with diverse skills, talent and perspectives to enable innovation.

Footprint reduction efforts center on maintaining safe, efficient and clean operations that eliminate employee harm and minimize impact on natural resources. The company also aims to take meaningful action on climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Additional priorities include cultivating a responsible supply chain by prioritizing suppliers that demonstrate responsible business practices, and acting with integrity in daily decisions, stakeholder engagement and protection of stakeholder data.

'This new strategy gives me great confidence in our ability—together with our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders—to build a more sustainable future,' said Keating.

The sustainability strategy was developed to better serve customers, comply with applicable regulations and support the company's updated Purpose, Mission, Vision and Values framework established during the 2024 transformation.

Technotrans and Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) have strengthened their cooperation by signing an exclusive framework agreement for the supply of the jointly developed Turboclean Advanced E ink supply system, designed to meet increasing demands for efficiency and sustainability in high-performance flexographic printing.

The system will be used exclusively in W&H flexographic printing presses. The agreement secures Technotrans an order volume in the low double-digit million euro range, underscoring its system expertise in fluid management for print applications.

'By continuing this close cooperation, we are securing significant revenue potential and consolidating our strong position in the print focus market,' said Michael Finger, CEO of Technotrans SE. 'The approach we have developed together with W&H provides clear competitive advantages in terms of efficiency, sustainability and operating costs.'

The development of the complete ink supply system for flexographic printing presses, used to print films for the packaging industry, was carried out in close, multi-year collaboration. To optimally support the development and intensive testing phase, Technotrans temporarily deployed a resident engineer at W&H.

'Our goal was to create a system that consistently meets our high standards for performance, resource efficiency and user-friendliness in flexographic printing,' said Dr Björn Feldhaus, head of printing press development at W&H. 'With Technotrans, we have found a development partner who implemented our concept excellently with technological expertise. We are delighted to further strengthen this successful partnership with the new framework agreement.'

The core of the Turboclean Advanced E system are electrically operated piston pumps, rather than the commonly used pneumatically driven diaphragm pumps. The resulting advantages are significant compared to conventional systems. They enable energy savings of up to 80 percent. In addition, the system minimizes ink loss during the frequent color changes typical in flexographic printing. The pump technology allows residual ink to be recovered from the lines and returned to the circuit.

Faster color changes in just five minutes and significantly extended maintenance intervals, thanks to the use of low-wear pump components, are further benefits. The piston pumps feature statically loaded seals, making them particularly durable against the abrasive components in printing inks – a decisive advantage compared to pumps with dynamically loaded seals.

Flexo Image Graphics (FIG), a Delhi-headquartered one-stop distributor and service provider of flexo presses and associated equipment, has announced its strategic partnership with Xsys Flexo Singapore, a global supplier of flexographic and letterpress pre-press products.

This latest partnership introduces a range of new products, including flexo plates, sleeves, and workflow software, to FIG's product portfolio.

Double E Group has announced that its subsidiary, Convertech, will transition to operate exclusively under the Double E Group brand, consolidating its manufacturing operations from Wharton, New Jersey, to the company's West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, facility.

The rebranding reflects operational integration rather than ownership change, as Convertech has operated as part of Double E Group since its acquisition. The company provides core chucks and shaft technology for converting industry applications.

Manufacturing consolidation at the Massachusetts campus aims to enhance production efficiency and customer service delivery. The transition includes updated branding and shipping information while maintaining existing product specifications and part numbers.

'This transition is about clarity, not change,' said Kyle Willis, CEO of Double E Group. 'Convertech has been part of the Double E Group for years. By bringing everything under one name and into one facility, we're reinforcing our unified commitment to customer success and product excellence.'

The integration preserves Convertech's technical team and manufacturing processes while providing access to Double E Group's expanded engineering and production resources. Customer purchasing information and technical drawings remain unchanged during the transition.

Swiss label converter Lange installed a new Flexor IS440 inspection and rewinding machine in early June 2025 to further enhance its production capabilities in the pharmaceutical label sector.

The decision to invest was driven by increasing demands for security, traceability and consistent quality in sensitive markets such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The goal was to implement a technology that combines reliable high-speed inspection, precise slitting and efficient finishing in a single system.

The Flexor IS440 is a fully servo-driven inspection machine equipped with an integrated 100 percent camera system, web guiding, splice table, waste rewind and modular slitting unit.

With a top speed of up to 150 m/min, the machine is suitable for a wide range of label applications, from standard production runs to highly sensitive jobs.

The system was seamlessly integrated into the company’s existing workflow.

The latest version of the well-established RollMover features a re-engineered handle and base that dramatically improve maneuverability, reduce operator fatigue and increase safety.

The EZX is also powered by a new 36V lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery. This chemistry offers up to 5,000 charge cycles, exceeding traditional lithium-ion alternatives, while maintaining safety and performance under heavy industrial loads. With over 10 years of shelf life, stable temperature response, and built-in safeguards against overheating or deep discharge damage, the EZX’s power system reduces maintenance costs and downtime.

Martin Automatic, ETI Converting, LemuGroup and Lundberg Tech have partnered to showcase a live production line at the upcoming Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona.

The four exhibitors will occupy booths D27, D29, D35 and D37 to showcase non-stop web automation, coating and laminating, label converting and automated label matrix waste handling working together as one integrated entity.

‘Our strategy has always been to lead with original designs and provocative, but well-managed goals, to deliver results that surpass expectations or even the imagination of the industry,’ said Gavin Rittmeyer, vice president of sales and marketing for Martin Automatic. ‘Together, Martin, ETI, LemuGroup and Lundberg Tech are demonstrating, in real time and in the most difficult of circumstances, what no one else has dared, or dreamed of doing – creating labelestock and converting it live, at a European trade show.’

In this new project for Labelexpo Europe 2025, each partner company contributes its own area of expertise. EcoVadis CSR rating agency has awarded coding and marking systems specialist Leibinger a bronze medal. The company also completed the Sedex Group’s SMETA audit standard for the second time.

The EcoVadis bronze medal attests that Leibinger is among the top 35 percent of companies across all industries rated over the last twelve months.

Leibinger achieved the best results in the categories of environment, ethics, and labour and human rights. EcoVadis has evaluated over 130,000 companies around the globe based on four categories and 21 sustainability criteria based on international standards. It is governed by a panel of experts from the fields of industry and science.

As part of its sustainability efforts, Leibinger once again underwent verification in line with the SMETA audit standard of the non-profit Sedex Group in 2024. SMETA is the world’s leading audit and documents social responsibility in labour standards, health and safety, the environment and business ethics.
