Industry standards for barcodes
Barcodes come in many different code formats, sizes and shapes and are found on all types of products in retail, commercial and industrial applications. The codes may be numbers only, upper case letters and numbers, or a combination of letters, numbers and certain symbols. To be of any use the codes have to be produced to a particular code standard, be verifiable to that standard’s specifications and tolerance levels, be scanned and then decoded.
Standards are therefore very important. Label and packaging converters need to know that there is a standard way of creating, producing, verifying and decoding the black and white bars and spaces, and of printing the barcodes to meet those standards.
