School students presented packaging awards

The school awards, now in their 13th year, form part of the annual Starpack Awards program, which also includes the Starpack Industry Awards and the Student Starpack Packaging Design Awards for colleges and universities.
The 2014 Schools Starpack Packaging Design Awards program featured three design briefs that students in the UK school years 10, 11 and AS Level (aged 15-17) were tasked to come up with packaging to suit. This included: ‘Movie night with friends’, sponsored by Benson Group, with the challenge to design a pack that combines two snacks in a fun and creative way to share within a group; ‘Miniature washing liquid container for leisure markets’, sponsored by Logoplaste UK, with the challenge to design a miniature washing up liquid container for use by campers and caravan holiday makers; and ‘Car KidTidy’, sponsored by British Polythene Industries, which tasked students to design a cartidy device that can be packed prior to the journey with each child's journey essentials.
The judges focused on the originality and aesthetic qualities rather than the commercial/manufacturing viability of the idea, and the quality of manufacture of the container and graphics used, whether generated by hand or with the aid of a computer.
The quality of the supporting portfolio, designs which show consideration for the environment and sustainability issues, and materials were further considerations.
Following the judging, gold, silver, bronze and commended framed certificates were awarded.
