UPM recognized among top sustainability performers

Leading global sustainability rating companies have recognized UPM among the top sustainability performers.

UPM has been recognized by CDP and S&P Global, both leading global sustainability rating companies, among the top sustainability performers.

The global environmental non-profit organization CDP recognized UPM with an A score for its leadership in corporate transparency and action on climate change mitigation and an A- for forest and water stewardship.

‘In our strategy, forests, wood-based products, low-carbon energy and the reduction of fossil CO2 emissions play a key role in mitigating climate change. Water plays a critical role in our business, from sustainable forestry to production and energy generation. We have set ambitious targets for all these areas as part of our Group-level sustainability targets for 2030,’ said Sami Lundgren, vice president of responsibility at UPM.

UPM was also recognized in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook as one of the top 10 percent performers in its industry.

The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook lists companies that are among the best in their respective industries. It was launched in 2004 and is S&P’s flagship and a globally recognized distinction for corporate sustainability performance.

Over 24,800 companies, representing two-thirds of global market capitalization from 130 countries disclosed their environmental information through CDP’s questionnaires.

This year, 7,690 companies assessed in the 2024 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) were considered for the 2025 Sustainability Yearbook. Only 780 companies from 62 industries were selected for the Yearbook.

‘We see sustainability as one of the most important drivers of growth and competitiveness, and we are seizing the opportunities presented by sustainable consumer choices and stricter regulations,’ added Lundgren.
