AIPIA and AWA gear up for Smart Packaging World Congress

An expanding roster of speakers and sponsors will participate in the Amsterdam event.

AIPIA and AWA have been preparing for the Smart Packaging World Congress, which will take place in Amsterdam in June 2025. Topics already high on the agenda include Digital Product Passports (DPPs) and how sustainable smart packaging can help brands and retailers meet their environmental goals and comply with the latest legislation requirements.

Identiv leads the list of sponsors, boasting a global reach and a proven record in utilizing RFID-based IoT technologies to create digital identities for physical objects. With 15 years of experience in the smart packaging sector, it plays a crucial role in fulfilling DPP requirements. Klaus Simonmeyer, vice president of strategic accounts for EMEA, will provide insights on this topic at the congress.

Takuya Oniki and Tomoaki Aso from another major sponsor, Toppan, will explore Unlocking the Power of Connected Retail―Innovative Integration of NFC Tags into Packaging.

Edward Ros, the business unit sales director of container systems at Schäfer Werke, will present his session on Smart IBC Containers: Smart Monitoring & IoT Integration for a Transparent Supply Chain.

Other key sponsors, including ETI Converting, Beontag, Checkpoint, and Inexto, will address the main themes identified by AIPIA as important areas: Connected Brand Packaging, Sustainable Smart Packaging and Powering Supply Chains and Data Management.

Confirmed speakers and panelists also feature Nathan Anderson from Scantrust, Mike McCamon from NFC Forum, Peter Jackson from Avery Dennison and Steve Stadler from AmbAI.

In addition to addressing the latest technologies, the congress will showcase a new Interactive Brand Packaging Network (IBPN), an innovative initiative aimed at establishing packaging as a recognized media and consumer engagement channel.

This directly targets brands and retailers, not as a sales pitch, but as an open portal providing information and networking to demonstrate how they can transform packaging from merely a product container into a strategic media asset with high ROI potential. A keynote speaker is Patrick Collister, former executive creative director of Ogilvy & Mather.

The congress will also showcase its popular Brand Challenge, which this year will include a global food enhancer. Currently, the challenge itself and the areas of interest from this food giant remain under wraps. However, more details will be available soon.

Delegates will learn about the best way to create Digital Product Passports and gain insights into the top brand priority of personalized consumer experiences using smart packaging.

E-commerce and retail impact are also in focus, alongside measuring and maximizing that impact, as well as ensuring smart packaging is future-proof for next-generation consumers.

Lastly, Emerald Technology Ventures will host a focused session on the impact of open innovation and venture capital in smart packaging.
