AVT improves productivity at Reflex Flexible Packaging

Reflex Flexible Packaging claims to have achieved major improvements in the productivity of its CI flexo press by fitting a web monitoring system from Advanced Vision Technology (AVT).

Previously, Reflex, which manufactures high-quality food packaging, said it was unable to print consistently at speed on its SOMA press.

The AVT Jupiter system monitors the moving web and alerts the operator to any deviation from the ‘master image’.  Harvey Ball, managing director at Reflex, chose AVT after demonstrations of the technology at leading UK packaging converters, and commented: ‘If it is the preferred choice of major international package printing groups, I figured it would do a great job for Reflex.’

The net result has been a massive saving in wasted material, and the avoidance of costly reprints. By knowing exactly where in the reel the fault occurred, the laminator or slitter rewinder operator can maximize use of the good print. The system, which is fully automatic, can be set up to different tolerance levels, but otherwise requires no human input or adjustment. The AVT technology has given Reflex greater productivity and the ability to offer consistent quality to its customers who want reduced time to market, it is claimed.
