GMI moves into Europe

Graphic Measures International (GMI), a global provider of quality management and brand integrity services, has opened an operation in Europe as it looks to capitalize on opportunities presented across the continent.

Justin Lewis has been appointed GMI’s business development director (Europe)

GMI works with major retailers, such as Target, Walgreens, Low’s and Best Buy in the US, to certify and validate the quality and consistency of packaging.

More than 500 print and packaging suppliers are currently certified by GMI, a figure which should grow rapidly in 2014 to nearer 1,000, with around 1,200 product vendors working through GMI’s various programs. More than 750,000 print and packaging items are measured and tested by GMI.

These tests cover a variety of print processes for a variety of different applications.

The UK sales office is GMI’s sixth global location, joining others in the US, Hong Kong, China, India and Costa Rica. These include sales and evaluation operations. GMI is currently investigating possible locations in Europe for an evaluation center.

Justin Lewis (pictured) has been appointed GMI’s business development director (Europe), having recently served as sales and marketing director for Vacuumatic. He has also worked with Heidelberg.

‘The opening of the European office is the first step in bringing GMI’s services directly into Europe,’ said Lewis.

‘Brand is king and print buyers need to know that wherever in the world their packaging and related print is produced, quality does not need to be compromised.’

GMI will be exhibiting at Packaging Innovations 2014 at the NEC, Birmingham on February 26-27.
