OPM Group highlights upcoming label design trends
The business, which pioneers label technologies in the health and nutrition, pharmaceutical, personal care and cosmetic sectors, believes that the push for innovation and performance is creating a more agile and ‘trend oriented’ label sector.

Arnie Ellison, commercial director at OPM, explained: ‘For brand owners, it’s all about “delivering more with less”. There’s no doubt that the pressure is on for brand owners looking to connect with today’s audience, but it can quickly become a juggling act. Consumers are savvier and retail behaviors are evolving, which means the “tried and tested” design rules no longer hold the same impact. From our perspective, we are seeing brands getting more explorative and creative with their designs in response to changing needs.’

With omnichannel retail still dominating, OPM is seeing a real focus on color vibrancy designed to catch the eye in a flash. In a fiercely competitive retail environment, converters have just a moment to connect, so vibrancy and outstanding color consistency are still key priorities for brands. For similar reasons, OPM is also seeing refreshed interest in tactile finishes. How a label feels to the touch is part of that all-important brand story, which means hot and cold foil metallics, matte and gloss coatings and raised characters are hot on the label design agenda.

From its high-capacity center of operations in the UK, OPM Group has built a 40-year strong reputation for blending label and packaging quality with consumer-led innovation.

Arnie continued: ‘From our perspective, the biggest trend by far is doing more with less. In today’s market where compliance and clarity are key, it’s easy for labels to feel crowded and busy – an easy turnoff for consumers. This is a rising trend we’ve kept a particularly close eye on and through the development of our Multi Dex label design. It’s a peel and reseal design with “all the multis” – multi-layered, multi-indexed, multi-substrate and multi-colored – and ideal for including detailed information in a small footprint. It’s a new way for brands to effectively use label space – making the real estate work harder!

‘We tend to think of the label market as being rigid, but that’s simply not true. The technology behind labels is shifting, evolving, and giving brands more opportunity to connect with shoppers than ever before. Multi Dex is just one example of what this looks like in practice, and we’re looking forward to seeing how brands negotiate changing retail waters in the coming months.’
