BPI to close Swansea plant

BPI to close Swansea plant

UK packaging materials supplier British Polythene Industries (BPI) is to close its Swansea packaging plant and transfer work to other facilities, according to reports.

The BBC is reporting that workers were informed this morning (Tuesday, November 1) that the plant is to close after losing money for several years.

Package Print Worldwide has been informed that BPI has announced its intention to close the facility and has started a consultation process, with up to 49 potential job losses being reported.

It is understood BPI plans to transfer work from the plant to its other sites. BPI has other packaging plants in Flint, north-east Wales and Norwich in Norfolk. BPI also has operations in North America, Asia and Europe, where it claims to be a leading provider of dynamic, polythene packaging solutions to customers across the continent through two manufacturing facilities in Belgium and one in the Netherlands, which supply high-quality printed and plain films for the food industry; form, fill and seal (FFS) films and heavy-duty sacks for the chemical, construction and horticultural industries; insulation films; general industrial films; and pallet protection products such as stretchwrap and stretch hoods.

Key products that BPI Packaging Services supplies include printed and customerized bags; polythene pharmaceutical film, bags and converted products; and tamper evident bags. These are supplied into the industrial, food, pharmaceutical, furnishings, construction, clothing, retail and white goods markets.
