Pragati invests in BW Converting’s Baldwin Guardian OLP and PQV

India-based converter automates its processes and significantly improves its ability to identify and rectify errors instantly.

Pragati Graphics and Packaging, one of the leaders in the Indian printing and packaging industry, has invested in Baldwin’s Guardian OLP system to introduce 100 percent accuracy and eliminate pre-press and pressroom defect issues.

With a legacy of over six decades, the Indore, India-based innovator has evolved by embracing continuous technological advancements. Catering to the demanding pharmaceuticals, food and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors, Pragati specializes in various products, including mono-cartons, self-adhesive labels and laminates.

The company faced the challenge of manual off-line inspection processes that were time-consuming and prone to human errors.

‘Accuracy is not just a goal; it's a necessity, especially when printing vital product labels,’ emphasized Rajesh Nema, Pragati’s director.

Nema partnered with Baldwin Technology to integrate the Guardian OLP system into Pragati’s workflow. This system is designed to provide 100 percent accuracy in the printing industry by eliminating pre-press and pressroom defect issues.

The Guardian OLP works by comparing files before going to a press or by taking press samples and comparing them to the customer-approved artwork. The software can identify any impurities in artwork that can be less than a 4-point font.

Following exceptional results with Guardian OLP, Pragati elevated its print quality capabilities by adding the in-line Guardian PQV 100 percent print inspection system. This system analyzes all materials and substrates and enables printers to eliminate every defect with an accurate, data-connected workflow.

The system provides ‘object-based inspection’ throughout printing, ensuring tighter tolerances and fewer false defects. Areas of interest on the printed substrate can be defined for enhanced or reduced levels of inspection. Operators can quickly spot errors, make adjustments in real-time and manage defects throughout the process. Defect positions and images are recorded and can be accessed at multiple post-press processes.

By adopting Baldwin’s Guardian technology, Pragati has significantly improved its ability to identify and rectify errors instantly, leading to a substantial decrease in waste and a boost in productivity.

‘The Baldwin’s technical support team in India is well equipped to sort out any issue – if there is one,’ commented Nema. ‘However, so far, I have not faced any glitch in the system.’

‘It has been a fantastic partnership to see Baldwin's Guardian OLP and PQV systems integrated into Pragati's operations, ensuring the perfection it is renowned for,’ added Baldwin sales manager Raj Rana. ‘Its commitment to excellence and our technology’s ability to deliver flawless results have combined to set new standards in the printing and packaging sector.’
