Sun Chemical focuses on sustainability

Visitors to booth 831 are discovering a wide range of biorenewable, compostable and recyclable products in the SunEco portfolio.

Sun Chemical is displaying its full portfolio of innovative sustainable technologies for the flexible packaging and narrow web, tag and label printing markets during Labelexpo Americas 2024.

The show visitors are able to see a wide range of products at Sum Chemical’s booth 831, including SolarFlex CRCL line of UV flexo inks for shrink and non-shrink applications, which facilitate easier PET film recycling by enabling ink removal without a primer. It is recognized by the APR for meeting or exceeding the voluntary requirements for APR Design for Recyclability Recognition.

The company is also promoting SolarFlex at the booth, a high-adhesion ink technology developed to offer adhesion performance for challenging substrates without requiring the use of a primer.

Also on show is SunVisto AquaGreen, water-based inks delivering biorenewable resin content; SolarWave UV-LED curable inks, which are compatible with UV and LED lamps; the MX12 ink dispenser that allows precise mixing that limits waste and reduces costs; and SunCure, mono-web UV flexo coatings that eliminate the lamination process and contribute to a reduced carbon footprint and material savings.

The company is also showcasing a range of complementary products designed to add depth and tactile qualities to label applications, including SunScreen, which enables online, real-time coating monitoring during printing to help reduce unnecessary waste from errors and reprints.

Also on show are SunInspire specialty inks and coatings use unique visual and tactile effects to enhance labels; SunJet inkjet inks that meet the latest application and regulatory compliance requirements for all printhead and press configurations; SunEvo primers, overprint varnishes and lamination adhesives for digital enhancement for digital printing applications; SunColorBox, a comprehensive digital color management tool with consistent, accurate color communication and data connectivity across the packaging supply chain.

Sun Chemical is also showcasing consumables like SunVisto Anilox Renew and Power Scrub, SunVisto AutoWash and SunClean cleaners that work effectively across various narrow web tag and label applications.

During the show, Sun Chemical is demonstrating how sustainability drives its product development with a variety of presentations highlighting aspects of Sun Chemical’s ‘5R’ framework (Reuse, Reduce, Renew, Recycle, and Redesign) and is showing how it guides research and development efforts that lead to eco-friendly ink, coating and adhesive solutions for the packaging market.

Sun Chemical’s global sustainability director, Dr Nikola Juhasz, presented on the Eco Stage in Hall B at Booth 3005 on Sept 10 at 1 pm. Hosted by TLMI, the event was designed to support a better-performing, more environmentally conscious label industry.

Also on Sept 10, Sun Chemical’s Derrick Hemmings, product manager for screen, energy curable flexo, presented during the Label Academy Master Class: Flexible Packaging at 2:45 pm.

On Wednesday, Sept 11, Dr Nikola Juhasz presented on evolving industry legislation at the Innovation Stage at 10:30 am.
