Labels win big at UK Packaging Awards
Cutting-edge label projects were amongst the winners at this year’s UK Packaging Awards.
Presented on November 14 at a ceremony in London, the UK Packaging Awards celebrate business performance and strategy, environmental programs and individual excellence within the UK packaging industry.
Printpack claimed the Label of the Year category thanks to the Share a Coke project it worked on earlier this year. This involved the combination of digital and conventional press technologies to produce a pan-European personalized marketing campaign for Coca-Cola. Overseen by Dutch label printer Eshuis, Printpack was involved in gravure printing elements of the project.

Insignia Technologies claimed the Best New Concept Award for its Embedded Label product.
This label can be incorporated into a film lid and is activated when the consumer opens the packet, triggering a timer to show a strong color change as the food within loses freshness. It is intended to tackle the issue of food waste by removing uncertainty about how long a pack has been opened.
Insignia Technologies recently confirmed the start of trails of such smart labels in Europe and the US thanks to a funding boost.
Other winners at the UK Packaging Awards 2013 included Curtis Print & Packaging, Essentra Packaging, Iggesund Paperboard, The Sherwood Press Group and Reckitt Benckiser.
