MSO Cleland adds second KBA

MSO Cleland has increased its production by 30% with the addition of a second KBA press at its Belfast plant.  The new Rapida 106, a six-colour press with coater, will boost the company’s annual turnover past £21m.

An essential element of the new press was its ability to run low migration ink.  According to company CEO Dominic Walsh: ‘We have only ever run low migration ink on it, which means there is zero chance of contamination.  This makes our packaging attractive to customers where food safety is big consideration.’

The new KBA has an array of on-press features that make it suitable for short run work, including fully automated plate changing, and KBA’s DriveTronic SIS infeed system, which eliminates manual intervention during stock changes and ensures smooth sheet travel.

Walsh concluded: ‘We have modified our business model to achieve profit on short and long runs.  The KBA’s ability to switch from job to job with little waste, means no compromise on print quality, and we are aiming to achieve ROI within four years.’
