Avery Dennison launches new labeling system
Avery Dennison has introduced a print and apply identification option that uses backing paper-free label material for carton, tray and pallet labels. The launch is part of the company’s efforts to accelerate performance and productivity throughout the global supply chain, with environmentally sustainable options.
The new print and apply unit, LPA 81x, powered by Avery Dennison LightSmart Technology (LPA 81x) is said to reduce paper waste, water and energy usage. LightSmart labels are coated on the reverse with a non-tack adhesive and become sticky through heat activation after the print and cut.
The materials is on one roll that can be cut to the desired length, thus reducing material waste and expense while offering increased flexibility for meeting a variety of printing requirements.
‘Our new print and apply solution using LightSmart Technology allows brands to be more environmentally responsible in their product offerings and operations,’ said Dave Herring, vice president, Avery Dennison general retail and industrial solutions. ‘We have worked closely with our customers to develop this new solution as part of our commitment to offer intelligent, sustainable solutions that elevate brands and accelerate performance. The ability to print labels with a backing paper-free solution enables our customers to improve productivity and efficiency while reducing environmental impact.’
The LightSmart labeling material boasts 60 percent more material per roll than traditional pressure sensitive labels, requiring significant fewer roll changes and operator material handling. According to the company, this improvement enables shop floor managers to keep fewer rolls in stock, reducing logistical tasks and saving money.
In addition, LightSmart is said to increase a brand’s sustainability by reducing backing paper production and waste, resulting in less transportation of materials and a lowering of the environmental impact on water, energy use, solid waste and CO2 generation when compared to traditional pressure sensitive options.
