Better Length and Speed Measurement with LaserSpeed

Better Length and Speed Measurement with LaserSpeed

Beta LaserMike has developed a LaserSpeed encoder that provides more accurate measurement than contact-type methods, and enables converters to increase productivity and quality.

Laser-based length and speed measurements have become the standard technology for many common converting applications, and the company’s LaserSpeed encoders are being used in paper, film, foil, and other material converting processes that involve continuous length measurement, cut control, post-cut length, differential speed, and position control.  The result of this improved accuracy and tighter process control is greater production efficiency and a better bottom-line.

The LaserSpeed system uses advanced laser-based technology to measure the length and speed of the product during production without making contact with the moving goods.  It projects a unique pattern onto the surface of the product, and as it moves, light is scattered back to the LaserSpeed unit.  This information is translated into product speed, and pulses are produced to determine the product length.  Length and speed measurements are captured with better than +0.05% accuracy.

Beta LaserMike offers a complete line of LaserSpeed encoders with measurement speeds up to 12,000 m/min, standoff distances to 1000 mm, and measurement depth of field to 100 mm.
