Jaume Puigbò passes away
A former Finat board and committee member has passed away.

Finat has announced that its former board and committee member Jaume Puigbò of Sinel Systems (now part of Autajon) in Barcelona, has passed away.
Sinel’s predecessor Caposa was one of the first Finat members from Spain. Puigbò first joined Finat events in the late 1970s and later on became an active member, serving on multiple committees (converter committee, barcode committee, technical committee and marketing committee) before joining the Finat board in the 1990s and once again in the 2000s.
Puigbò was also a co-founder of the Spanish label association ANFEC (now called AIFEC), as well as the Concordia alliance. His mantra for association engagement was that ‘the more you put into the association, the more you get out’.
Representing a company that was one of the pioneers in automatic identification systems and the implementation of barcode systems across the supply chain, Puigbò played an active role as developer and promotor of the EPSMA Barcode, one of the first implementations of the EAN 128 code used in logistics. Sister company CYG (now part of UPM Raflatac) was the first to embrace the barcode on its rolls and pallets. Puigbò was ahead of his time when raising issues related to digitalization, data interoperability, and Y2K even before these terms were widely understood in the industry.
‘Finat is thankful for what Jaume Puigbò did for the association and its community. Several members still carry fond memories of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, to which he and his wife Maria-Dolores (a member of the organizing committee) invited their Finat friends. We wish Maria-Dolores and the family all the strength to cope with this sad loss,’ said Finat in a statement.
