ASG buys MWV Polish folding carton factory

MeadWestvaco (MWV) has completed the sale of its beauty and personal care folding carton facility in Bydgoszcz, Poland to AGI-Shorewood Group (ASG).

AGI-Shorewood Group acquires Bydgoszcz facility from MWV

The acquisition is part of ASG’s strategy to develop additional world-class packaging options for the beauty and personal care, spirits, confectionery and healthcare markets.

ASG said Bydgoszcz is an important supplier of packaging to major global and regional consumer goods companies, including cosmetics and beauty brands. It plans to leverage the Bydgoszcz operation’s assets to expand its footprint in the European consumer packaging market. All 320 of the current employees will continue working at the Bydgoszcz facility.

Tony Garnish, ASG chief executive responsible for Europe, said: ‘In bringing Bydgoszcz into our group, we increase our level of technical capability, experience and knowledge of consumer markets.

‘We look forward to cultivating new opportunities while continuing to deliver first-class solutions for our current clients.’

Mike Jackson, chairman of ASG’s board of directors, added: ‘This acquisition is another excellent platform from which ASG can grow into new markets. We are excited to extend our presence in Europe and expand our global customer base in our primary business of print, packaging and plastics.’

MWV had previously announced its plan to exit the beauty and personal care folding carton business in Europe, as well as plans to repurpose a folding carton facility in Brazil to produce fragrance pumps and dispensers, as part of a move to improve margins in its Home, Health & Beauty segment. The sale of the Bydgoszcz plant to ASG has concluded these strategic developments.

Kevin Clark, president of MWV Home and Beauty, said: ‘We are proud of the strong performance of our team in Bydgoszcz and know that they will thrive as a part of ASG.’
