The Green Packaging Star Awards have been held annually since 2008 and are presented by the magazine Kompack and the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology. The awards celebrate sustainable packaging, as well as packaging-related innovations in the operational process. Across four categories, the most environmentally friendly products, best company philosophies and production processes in the packaging industry are honored.

Coveris won the prestigious Green Packaging Star Award in the Environmentally Friendly Corporate Strategy category. The packaging company has built its sustainability strategy around its vision of No Waste – no product waste, no packaging waste, and no operational waste – focusing extensively on resource conservation.

Coveris already produces packaging incorporating recycled content, material-saving lightweight solutions, as well as a wide range of easy recyclable monomaterials. Additionally, the packaging manufacturer is aiming to run all production sites with renewable energy.

Coveris’ commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of its products is visible through its latest product innovations. Recognizing this, two of Coveris’ packaging technologies were also finalists in this year’s Green Packaging Star Awards: PaperBarrier Seal and MonoFlex.

‘We are thrilled that our sustainability strategy was recognised with a Green Star Packaging Award,’ commented Christian Kolarik, group’s chief operating officer at Coveris. ‘We are convinced that we are making an important contribution to protecting our climate with our No Waste vision, which is characterized by an approach in two dimensions. On one hand avoidance of product waste, packaging waste and operational waste and on the other hand the involvement of the entire Coveris organization from the shop floor via the group-wide Green Teams, to the management level and executive board. The award we received and the fact that two other Coveris products were among the finalists makes us very proud. This is an award for our employees as, after all, they are working every day to make our vision of a more sustainable future a reality.’
