Ecolean opens office in Japan
Ecolean, a European developer and manufacturer of packaging systems for the liquid food industry, including packaging material, packaging and filling machines for both ambient and chilled distribution, has opened an office in Tokyo, Japan to target growth opportunities arising from the country’s growing preference for flexible packaging.
Ecolean cites market research company Canadean’s findings that flexible packaging is establishing a dominating presence amongst packaging materials in Japan. Ecolean said the rise in demand for lightweight and convenient packaging makes the Japanese market ‘a perfect fit’ for its range of flexible stand-up pouches for chilled and ambient distribution.
‘The Japanese market is yet another strategically important step in Ecolean’s global expansion,’ the company said in a statement. It already has commercial activities in more than 30 countries worldwide. ‘Japan is, in many respects, at the forefront of packaging – and the consumers often set the trends for other markets to follow,’ the statement continued.
Ecolean Group CEO Peter Nilsson added: ‘The Japanese market is at the forefront of packaging innovation, and both producers and consumers are very quick to adopt to novel offerings. The increasing demand for solutions such as ours, with low environmental impact throughout the value chain, makes Japan a very promising market for us.’
‘We have already experienced significant interest from Japanese companies, all reacting favorably to Ecolean’s unique combination of environmental benefits, ease of use and strong shelf presence. Japanese consumers are also well accustomed to stand-up pouches, which adds to our attractiveness,’ concluded Johnny Sajland, managing director of Ecolean China & Japan.
Ecolean’s new office is located in the Minato City district of central Tokyo.
