John Watson Printers holds wine tasting event with Donald Murray

Master of Wine Rose Murray Brown recently entertained 24 customers from the whisky trade and design community with some tips and tricks of wine tasting. As well as running master classes, Rose Murray Brown has written wine columns for The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday

The event at the Abode Hotel in Glasgow was organized by John Watson Printers and co-sponsored by paper merchant Donald Murray Paper, part of PaperCo.

‘The event was a thank you to our customers and to the French mill Zuber Rieder who, following an introduction by Donald Murray Paper, have helped us on a couple of key account developments,’ said Robert McLachlan, joint managing director of John Watson

These projects included the development of a pearlized paper which would hold fast on bottles for Morrison Bowmore Distillers Auchentoshan brand; and the switch from a metallized paper to a writing paper with an upmarket feel for William Grant’s Glenfiddich range.

Representatives from many whisky groups, including WmGrants, Diageo, The Edrington Group and Burn Stewart, were at the wine tasting along with design agencies representing the likes of Douglas Laing and Morrison Bowmore.

‘Donald Murray Paper is a great company to work with. They provide stock holdings of the various labeling materials and support us with contingency back up supplies, that gives us a just-in- time service, and they can supply that quick reaction needed  when we have an urgent requirement. We find them 100 percent reliable,’ said McLachlan.
