The senior director of product development will focus on sustainability in flexible packaging production.

S-OneLP has confirmed that its senior director of product development, Dan Halkyard, will be one of the presenters at the Labelexpo Label Academy master class on flexible packaging on September 10. He will focus on sustainability by highlighting working with mono materials, strategies for reducing carbon footprint and staying compliant with environmental regulations.

Master class attendees will benefit from Halkyard’s extensive experience developing, testing and certifying recyclable, compostable and post-consumer recycled (PCR) flexible packaging materials.

He has over 35 years of experience in the digital print market space, focusing on digital printing substrates and coatings. He has developed a range of digitally printable, flexible packaging films and papers, which were introduced to complement S-OneLP offerings of HP Indigo primers and overprint varnishes. They are provided to flexible packaging and label converters who use coatings and unimaged films to make their final printed products.

S-One LP’s flexible packaging film portfolio includes three product lines: Classic (made from mixed plastic packaging films), ReTreve (made from recyclable polyethylene (PE)) and ReEarth (made from bio-based and compostable films).

Halkyard was instrumental in the development and certification of ReEarth, including products that have been certified by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), Composting Manufacturers Alliance (CMA), TUV for both OK Compost Home and Industrial and Lomi Approved.

Halkyard joined S-OneLP in 2016 and has previously worked for companies such as James River Corporation, Rexam, Arkwright, Oce and Sihl.

‘I’m eager to educate industry leaders to drive innovation and set new standards in sustainable, flexible packaging,’ Halkyard said. ‘I’ll share valuable insights to inspire and empower attendees in advancing sustainable practices and addressing environmental challenges.’

S-OneLP will have two booths at Labelexpo Americas 2024. Booth 6385 will allow visitors to experience Cellcoat T14, a small-footprint thermal laminator. In contrast, booth 1353 will focus on primers, overprint varnishes, coatings, and flexible packaging films, and showcase the latest packaging technologies form Michelman and Kustom Koatings.
