West Africa provides KBA with demand for sheet-fed offset presses

- Tradeshows in West Africa give KBA exposure to growing market
- First Drupa-generation Rapida 105 installed in Africa
German press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer (KBA) has attend two exhibitions in West Africa in an effort to grow its exposure to the market.
The first event was Ghana’s annual GEREU, organised by the Ghanaian-German Economic Association. Now in its fifth year, 2012 was KBA’s first time exhibiting at the event, where it had a manned information stand.
Along with advertising KBA sheet-fed technology, KBA also used the show to introduce its new sales partner, Exact Solutions.
Three weeks later followed Nigeria’s NIPEX 2012 in Lagos.
Lagos has some 18 million inhabitants and is the economic center of a country that has profited from the boom in raw material exports, KBA said, with Lagos a hub used as a starting off point for West Africa.
KBA has a good standing in Nigeria, with several successful Rapida and Genius installations.
NIPEX 2012 provided KBA with further opportunities to present its new developments to the country’s print professionals, and to hold initial talks concerning new projects.
Visitors to the KBA stand at NIPEX (pictured, top) included Adekunle Adeshina, managing director of ESKADE Ventures, where the first Drupa-generation Rapida 105 in Africa went live.
The six-color press with coater and extended delivery is fully equipped with measuring technology, plastic and UV packages, several automation functions as well as a KBA LogoTronic Plus workflow system.
ESKADE Ventures decided on the Rapida 105 for its high level of automation, make-ready times and flexibility.
This press will enable the firm to enter the high-quality packaging market for cosmetics, contracts with global players in the cosmetics and chemical industry have already been signed.
In the Nigerian packaging industry a large number of old presses contrasts with huge demand, with the trend towards high-quality packaging obvious.
KBA said that, as a result, the installation at ESKADE Ventures generated wide interest at NIPEX, and may lead to further orders shortly.
