Windmöller & Hölscher hosts most successful Open House to date

Windmöller & Hölscher has hailed its recent Packaging 4.0 Open House event as its most successful to date, having welcomed more than 1,000 attendees from 61 countries to see a dozen machines being demonstrated, including its Miraflex S, to cover the entire production cycle of flexible packaging.

Windmöller & Hölscher said Packaging 4.0 was inspired by the term Industry 4.0, and was designed to capitalize on its knowledge and experience in extrusion, printing and converting to represent intuitive and integrated technologies, and show the possibilities the fourth industrial revolution opens for the manufacturing of flexible packaging. This saw Windmöller & Hölscher connect more than one production process with, for example, the Varex II II blown film line running thin, breathable backsheet diaper film that was then brought over to a Vistaflex flexo press for high speed printing.

‘Packaging 4.0 was the most successful event that we have hosted to date,’ the machinery manufacturer said in a statement. ‘Never before have we had so many visitors in just two days. We received very positive feedback about our new technologies and the event as a whole.’

As well as live demonstrations of the Miraflex S and other printing presses, Packaging 4.0 saw two technology world premieres, with the Aquacage adjustable water calibrator for use with its Aquarex blown film line, and the Turboclean automatic purging system for the Varex II blown film line.

Miraflex S was launched earlier this year to meet the need for smaller packaging, shorter runs, quick changeovers, minimal ink and substrate waste, and lower plate costs.
