Xeikon supports digital growth at US label printer

Texas-based full-service label printer The Label Smith has invested in a Xeikon 3500 press to support its growth in digital printing.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The Label Smith has grown into one of the region’s leading label printers, specializing in custom labels for food and water containers.

After a review of products from a range of competitors, the company chose the Xeikon 3500 citing capability, flexibility and service support of the Xeikon technology among their primary reasons.

With a 20.3in web width, the Xeikon 3500 is suited for the production of label, as well as packaging, applications. Equipped with high-precision LED-based imaging heads, it features true 1,200dpi resolution with variable dot density, generating excellent image quality.

The Xeikon 3500 is equipped with five color stations, four for the standard process colors and the fifth station for the use of gamut expansion colors or a one-pass opaque white toner or a security toner for anti-counterfeiting applications.

Due to its full rotary printing technology, the speed of the press is unaffected by the number of colors used and the size of the labels. The press can handle monthly duty cycles of up to 3.8 million sq ft, allowing plenty of room for growth to its users. It runs on Xeikon’s QA-I toner which is FDA-compliant for indirect and direct contact with dry food.

Many of The Label Smith’s customers require a high level of customization and the company needed a digital printing solution that would minimize downtime. Previously, changed job orders cost The Label Smith’s team time and lost productivity.

Tim Smith, founder of The Label Smith said: ‘The print quality of the Xeikon 3500 really stands out. Ease of maintenance is tremendous. It’s allowing me to say “bring it on” to new jobs, instead of saying “I can’t work 24 hours a day”.

‘I’m throwing the world at it and have been very satisfied.’
