Delhi-based MD Graphics installs AccurioLabel 230
Delhi-based label converter MD Graphics has installed a Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 230 digital label press. The company plans to target FMCG, pharma and cosmetic label segments with the new investment.
‘We have a digital machine in sheetfed but now with the Konica Minolta press, we have added roll-fed printing capability,’ says Dheeraj Sharma, owner of MD Graphics.
The company is equipped with offset, flexo and screen printing technologies and has production facilities in Dehradun, Delhi and Ahmedabad.
Sharma says that production capacity has increased by 50 percent with the new press and has already bagged an FCMG customer.
The company has transferred its sheetfed label jobs to the digital press. Sharma cites productivity, quality and the ability to add value-added finishing such as foiling and embossing as the best features of the press. Additionally, he says that good customer service by Konica Minolta weighed in his decision to go for the press.
Sharma says market demand is growing gradually and he expects it to multiply with the new digital printer.
The company is planning to invest in another Konica Minolta press after two to three years for its Dehradun plant. ‘If the demand grows, we might install it sooner. It depends on how much demand we get from Dehradun. As we enter the pharma industry, we observed that there are a lot of pharma companies and we plan to target them.’
The investment plans also include a new production facility in Pune in the coming two years where the company has a warehouse.
‘We have clients in Pune. We print in Delhi and supply it to them through our warehouse. But we are focusing on installing a plant there as well because the customer base is good in Maharashtra,’ Sharma explains.
The company also exports its labels to Sri Lanka where it plans to expand its market reach.
Vijay Kamat, product manager, Industrial Printing, Konica Minolta, says: ‘Sharma would like to enter new label printing segments such as QR codes, variable data printing, non-cloneable codes with AR and VR possibilities. A lot of FMCG companies are getting active in this space to attract customers and form one on one association with them so that they buy their products on a regular basis.
‘And when we talk to brands, we understand that security is one of the concerns along with brand protection and marketing communication to tap end user base for certain product range. So we are trying to initiate that through new digital label businesses. We would like to work very closely with MD Graphics to implement those practices for new edge digital label products.’
Kamat adds that and as the converter grows, it will add inspection systems for high accuracy jobs. Konica Minolta will guide MD Graphics with the right pre and post-press equipment and as and when demand comes.
