Tasmanians invest in Epson digital printing unit
Hobart, Tasmania-based converter Abel Labels has taken a step into the 21st century by investing in a new Epson SurePress.

To accommodate the new press Abel has moved to vastly enlarged premises, overnight tripling its production footprint. According to Abel managing director Trent Cowen, the objective of the move and the new investment is to expand the company’s current turnover by countering the clout of some of its bigger competitors.
The new 750 sqm factory on the outskirts of Hobart is triple the size of Abel’s old 240 sqm facility.
Trent Cowen said the company needed to upgrade its hardware to keep up with rising customer demands. Up to recently reliant on UV flexo, the 29-year-old Abel Labels was simply not able (no pun intended) to achieve the high quality expected by today’s customers, according to Cowen.
