MCC acquires Starport Technologies

The company acquires RFID products and smart labels manufacturer.

Multi-Color Corporation (MCC) has acquired Starport Technologies, a provider of smart label technologies based in Kansas City, Missouri. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 2006, Starport manufactures a wide range of RFID products and other types of smart labels for numerous consumer and supply chain applications. Its unique manufacturing processes enable various face materials, adhesives, RFID transponders, printing and other specialty coated web materials to be converted into a single pass through its converting platform.

The acquisition complements and strengthens MCC’s greater than 20 years of experience in RFID labeling.

‘RFID is one of the fastest growing segments of MCC’s business, and we are thrilled to welcome Starport and its expertise as the industry’s leading RFID prime label converter into the MCC family,’ said Hassan Rmaile, CEO of MCC. ‘Joining our two high-performing teams together will allow us to continue delivering innovative, decorative, technical and functional RFID labeling solutions to the industry with exceptional service, quality and customer intimacy.’

Jeff Nedblake, Starport Technologies founder and CEO, and his staff, will transition to MCC and manage the combined company’s newly formed smart packaging business unit.

‘Starport Technologies is driving accelerated profitable growth as major CPGs and retailers integrate intelligent labeling solutions including RFID technologies into both consumer and supply chain applications, and the timing was optimal to combine our capabilities with MCC’s leadership position worldwide,’ said Nedblake.

‘Multi-Color’s core offerings, channel access, operational excellence and balance sheet make them the perfect partner from which to scale our collective capabilities to meet the needs of our customers, both here in the United States and globally,’ concluded Nedblake.
