AVT and Edale have developed a fully integrated closed loop image-based pressure, register and inspection system.

AVT and Edale launch closed loop, image-based pressure, register and inspection system

Launching at Labelexpo Europe, the system follows the launch of Edale’s AiiR system, AiiR sees registration marks printed on each station and fed to the AVT Helios S camera positioned at the end of the press. The camera analyzes the relative positions of the marks and sends necessary corrections to the respective print stations. Sophisticated tracking software developed by Edale ensures that no additional corrections are made until the initial corrections have passed the camera. AiiR incorporates camera technology from AVT to offer a claimed level of registration quality never before seen in single-pass printing. After make-ready, AVT’s 100 percent inspection system runs in the background.

The configuration at Labelexpo Europe includes a new integrated, image-based pressure control system.

James Boughton, Edale managing director, said: ‘Edale’s close cooperation with AVT has resulted in Edale being able to offer one of the most highly automated flexo presses in the industry. We are proud to announce that Edale is the only narrow web press manufacturer offering a fully integrated combined image based pressure and register control system on our analogue and hybrid digital flexo presses.’

‘Working closely with Edale, we have achieved a solution that has exceeded our expectations,’ added David Naisby, business development director at AVT. ‘Together, we’ve developed a unified, Helios-integrated platform performing multiple tasks to consistently minimize waste and increase overall quality. Edale has a collaborative, forward-thinking team whose experience and ethos of open minded technology development has helped create a winning solution for the label industry.’

The system can be integrated on Edale’s FL3 and FL5 flexographic presses, and at Labelelxpo Europe 2017 will run live on Edale’s FL3 Graphium hybrid press.
