Schreiner unveils tamper-evident label film
Schreiner MediPharm, a Germany-based pharmaceutical label specialist, has unveiled a new label-cap combination that protects the integrity of original medicine containers and through the irreversible first opening helps to prevent their illegal reuse.

Empty medicine containers with original labels are often filled with ineffective or harmful substitutes and re-introduced into the market by counterfeiters, posing a risk to patients and a challenge to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The new development from Schreiner, Flexi-Cap, offers the pharma market an additional level of security thanks to its complex construction with the tear strip running through both the film cap and the label. When the tear strip is opened at the starter tab, it simultaneously destroys the cap and the label so that undetected reuse of the container is no longer possible.
The Flexi-Cap and Flexi-Cap Prime family of products can easily be integrated into the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s production processes. It is applied without heat, and can be flexibly adapted to diverse container types, shapes and sizes, while the label design and the pharma manufacturer’s brand appearance remain unchanged. The integration of additional features, such as counterfeiting protection elements also offers further opportunities for securing the supply chain.
The new technologies are also useful for healthcare staff to ensure the integrity of the vial until its final application. Flexi-Cap Prime enables fast and efficient first-opening verification; therefore patients can be protected against the administration of ineffective and potentially harmful medications.
Schreiner MediPharm will present both technologies at the upcoming CPhI Worldwide 2019 in Frankfurt from November 5 to 7.
