OPM (Labels and Packaging) Group, one of the leading international flexible packaging and labels manufacturers, has signed up to the United Nations Global Compact to support its customers’ sustainability strategies

The UN Global Compact, the world’s largest sustainability initiative, unites over 15,000 companies and 4,000 non-business participants globally in their commitment to building a sustainable future.

‘As packaging and label supply partners to a wide range of brands, packers and retailers across the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, beverage, health and nutrition markets, we recognize the intense pressure that our customers are under to improve their sustainability performance,’ commented Chris Ellison, managing director of OPM. ‘That’s not just about producing packaging from greener materials but ensuring supply partners are engaged and driving forward on all environmental, social and governance matters.

According to Ellison, the company has been working diligently over the past few years to ensure it operates as a responsible, environmentally caring business doing its utmost to create sustainable operations.

‘From eradicating solvents from our prepress processes to implementing digital workflows to minimize errors and waste, we understand the benefits and value of driving sustainable operations,’ added Ellison. ‘But on top of our environmental performance, the UN Global Compact focuses the business on our employees, supply chains and economic performance and provides us with 17 sustainable development goals to measure ourselves against.

‘In the words of Peter Drucker, “if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it” and that’s how we feel we need to operate at OPM. Brands need their packaging partners to step up to the plate on sustainability to support their long-term goals. OPM is proud to stand up and be counted and by working with the United Nations we have a clear strategy and mission in place.’
