Irish converter installs Rotoflex inspection system

Ireland-based converter Pharmagraphics Guy has installed Rotoflex vision verification technology to further increase its pharmaceutical labeling quality assurance systems.

The new technology will assist in the production of conforming self-adhesive labels. Machine-mounted camera systems compare every label produced to the customer’s approved artwork. Sean Nolan, managing director of Pharmagraphics Guy, said: ‘It is a revolutionary advance in quality assurance systems for our customers.’

The Rotoflex system provides quality control by identifying all kinds of faults, including ink defects, missing print, color variation, register movement, print-to-die cut, damaged plates, missing labels and matrixes, splices and dust and other particles.

Where faults are detected, the machine stops and the vision system displays the defects on a monitor so that the operator can quickly locate, verify and correct any problems. The defective label is then rewound to an inspection station for analysis.

The vision verification systems were developed and tailored to suit the needs of Pharmagraphics Guy and its customers engaged in pharmaceutical and other consumer product applications, which operate under the strictest usage protocols.

The systems are supplemented with multiple lane numbering capability and leader and trailer facilities to minimize waste and speed up reel change.

Nolan commented: ‘Errors on pharmaceutical labels can potentially have extensive and serious consequences, but with a high specification vision system, the risks are significantly reduced, ensuring the highest possible levels of compliance are maintained.

‘As a leading supplier to the pharmaceutical industry, this new equipment has been designed to help us provide an extra level of reassurance to all our customers. Feedback so far has been extremely positive with the majority of our customers requesting that their labels be processed through the system.

‘We are proud to introduce these new quality verification systems and we are renowned for our exacting quality requirements and excellence standards. They represent true value-added and quality service assurances for all our customers. Our new systems are leading edge and step change service innovations.’
