Menges Roller wins AIMCAL award
Menges Roller has won the Association of International Metallizers, Coaters & Laminators (AIMCAL) 2014 Technology of the Year Award for its work with heat transfer rollers.
Menges Roller is a designer and manufacturer of precision industrial rollers for the plastics, paper and steel industries, and has been recognized for its work using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to design better heat transfer rollers.
Heat transfer rollers are used to heat laminated substrates, cool recently-extruded plastics, and assist in the heating and cooling of various materials undergoing temperature-critical processes – these rollers are very important components.
Menges Roller has steadily increased its presence in the field of liquid-filled double-shelled heat transfer rollers, with the technology for which Menges won this award involving the use of high-tech computer models to simulate a rollers’ temperature and performance characteristics. Rollers designed using its CFD thermal modeling technology are guaranteed to achieve the temperatures modeled in their computer simulations.
Menges Roller engineers can generate models and images showing, for example, changes in temperature if the roll diameter is increased by 3in and the exact temperature variation across the roll surface.
Menges Roller president Matt Menges said: ‘We are very pleased to win this award. My team has worked hard to perfect the use of this technology for our customers – so it’s great to see my peers recognize our good work.’
