ESS develops new system for in-mold labels

Danish manufacturer ESS has developed a new system for producing in-mold labels that are picked directly from the web.

ESS IM Label Master

Known as the IM Label Master, the new technology avoids the problems associated with static electricity and thereby the need for anti-static varnish.

The pre-printed reel of labels is fed through to a vacuum delivery table that allows the robot to “pick and place” the label precisely into the molding machine.  There is no need for stacking, punching, or manual handling, and the waste is rewound onto a spindle adjacent to the unwinder for easy operation.

Claus Nielsen of PGM Graphic Solutions, who has been appointed by ESS to handle sales in the UK and Ireland, said: ‘The IM Label Master provides a cost-effective solution for in-mold label production and will allow more converters to enter what is potentially a profitable market sector.’
