Pipi to use Intec DMP450 to produce heavy-stock mock-ups
- Multi-media production unit can print up to 25kgs of extreme stocks up to 600gsm/600 microns thick in one go

UK print and packaging firm Pipi has invested in an Intec DMP450 multi-media production unit, which can print up to 25kgs of extreme stocks up to 600gsm/600 microns thick in one go.

Pipi Print & Packaging is using the unit to produce packaging mock-ups, as well as other products that it prints.

As well as folding cartons, Pipi produces self-adhesive labels, miniature leaflets, swing tags and commercial print work. It also carries out design work for its customers.

For carton production, Pipi uses offset press technology, including Heidelberg machines, and can carry out foil blocking, embossing, varnishing, and cutting and creasing before final gluing.

The Intec DMP450 replaces an Oki 6900, after being recommended by graphic designer Bhavin Supeda.

It uses an Intec XP2020 print engine, and features a standard tray for stock up to 240gsm, multi-media feeder for up to 25kg paper capacity and a multi-media output stacker.

Supeda said: ‘I have been aware of Intec printers for some time, and when our Oki broke it was the ideal opportunity to replace it with an Intec, which can print on thick media. We’re pushing through 450 to 590-micron card for short-run printing. For instance, we have 22 different leaflets and we’ll print 500 to 600 copies.’

The day of the installation coincided with an important day in the Hindu calendar, so the Intec printer and engineer Roger Ginnaw received a Hindu blessing (pictured, top).
