Materials In Works to showcase innovation in sustainability in Bangkok

Through innovative recycling processes, the company diverts over 18 tons of industrial waste from landfills annually and reduces 26 tons of carbon emissions.

Innovative Malaysia-based company Materials in Works (MIW) has confirmed its participation in the upcoming Labelexpo SouthEast Asia in Bangkok, Thailand, in May this year to showcase its innovative technologies developed to upcycle label liners and turn hard-to-recycle materials into fuel.

MIW specializes in producing Recovered Cellulose Pulp (RCP) from upcycled label liners, which serves as a high-quality raw material for paper and packaging manufacturers.

The company also develops Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF), an industrial fuel derived from non-recyclable laminates and label matrix, which provides an alternative to fossil fuels.

‘MIW was founded to address the growing challenge of industrial waste, particularly hard-to-recycle materials such as label liners and laminates,’ said John Ooi, technical director and founder of Marietals In Works. ‘These materials often end up in landfills, contributing to environmental degradation and greenhouse gas emissions.

‘MIW’s mission is to transform this waste into valuable resources, fostering a circular economy while promoting environmental sustainability. By leveraging innovative technologies, we aim to reduce reliance on virgin resources, cut carbon footprints, and oer cost-eective waste management solutions to industries.’

Moreover, MIW oers consultation and waste collection services, creating customized technologies for clients aiming to align their operations with sustainability goals.

The company collaborates with leading corporate partners, showcasing our ability to integrate sustainability into business operations. Currently, MIW works with Unza Wipro / Uniqlo Malaysia, a personal care and household product Asian mega brand, to recycle label waste generated during its supply chain operations. It also works with Avery Dennison, UPM Raflatac and Mega Label to advance label waste recycling and promote circularity within the label packaging industry.

Through these collaborations, MIW diverts over 18 tons of industrial waste from landfills annually and reduces 26 tons of CO2 emissions through innovative recycling processes and providing businesses with cost-saving alternatives for waste management.

‘At MIW, we believe that waste is not the end but the beginning of new opportunities. By combining innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to sustainability, we aim to redefine waste management practices and create lasting environmental impact for generations to come,’ concluded Ooi.

Material In Works will exhibit at stand H20 at the upcoming Labelexpo Southeast Asia 2025 in May in Bangkok, Thailand.
