AIPIA and AWA gear up for Smart Packaging World Congress 2024
The participating lineup includes Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Friesland Campina, Kraft Heinz, MSD Merck, AB InBev, Vion Food Group, Tetra Pak and Auchan.
Active and Intelligent Packaging Industry Association (AIPIA) and AWA Alexander Watson and Associates (AWA) have been gearing up for this year’s edition of the AIPIA World Congress, which will take place in Amsterdam on November 18-19, 2024.
In 2024, AWA reports a surge in interest in intelligent connected packaging and technologies that reduce food waste, improve supply chain efficiencies, enhance traceability, and create better consumer engagement opportunities.
The congress is perfectly positioned to leverage the growing popularity of QR Codes, RFID and NFC technologies while showcasing the latest innovations available in the market.
The congress's main themes will focus on smart sustainability and the collection and utilization of data essential for helping brands connect with and better understand consumer needs.
In addition to keynotes from brand owners on ‘hot’ topics, including AI, a number of panels featuring a cross-section of brands and technology providers will explore themes, such as the future trajectory of smart packaging innovation and the role of new technologies in preventing food waste.
Four themes will focus on the expert presentation agenda: Smart Packaging for Sustainability, Driving Innovation in Connected Packaging, Powering Supply Chains & Data Management, and Food Safety and Security—the Smart Food Chain.
To wrap up the congress on a high note, the esteemed Brand Owner Challenge will occur on the second day of the event. Twelve innovative technology providers will showcase their ideas to brand owners looking for specific solutions in areas such as marketing, brand protection, supply chain optimization, and data collection through smart packaging. Each company will have just three minutes to pitch its concept and encourage brand owners to explore it further.
Another feature of this year’s congress will be the first plenary meeting of the Smart Food Chain project (SFC)—an EU-funded program initiated by AIPIA, technology scouts Packz, consultants Berenschot and coordinators T-Systems. The full consortium, comprising more than 40 companies will hold a plenary session and actively participate in the full congress.
‘There is a real buzz about the buildup to this year’s congress and so many brands have already told us they want to be there,’ said Eef de Ferrante, managing director of AIPIA. ‘The format is ideal for creating the kind of organized chaos that is a hallmark of the AIPIA events which bring new energy and innovation and stimulates collaboration.’
