CCL Label Dornbirn invests in Matho waste management system

The Austrian production facility enhances trim Handling and recycling efficiency.

The Austrian production facility of CCL Label in Dornbirn has implemented an advanced trim handling and recycling system from Matho Absaugtechnik to optimize waste management and sustainability in its production process.

With eight slitting machines generating significant amounts of foil trim waste, CCL Label Dornbirn sought a more efficient and sustainable technology to enhance material separation for recycling while ensuring a cleaner production environment. Although reliable, its previous system no longer met evolving efficiency demands and sustainability goals.

The company has been facing challenges of efficiently handling flexible packaging material foils (25–90 µm thickness), achieving cutting speeds up to 700 m/min, integrating cutting, conveying, de-dusting and trim handling as well as reducing waste and improving air quality in production.

Matho provided a fully integrated trim handling and recycling technology tailored to CCL Label Dornbirn’s requirements. The system includes GR-160 Cutters for precise processing of foil trim, KU10000 Separators for effective material separation and high-efficiency filter systems and fans for air purification and return.

The system efficiently collects and processes trim from the slitting machines, transporting it into a container compactor. Its key features include material separation with dual-stream recycling options for operators and air management thanks to the KU10000 separator and filtration system that removes dust and recirculates clean air. The new system has also optimized energy consumption thanks to electro-pneumatic flaps and frequency converters that adjust the fan speed in real-time.

Since the system’s installation, CCL Label Dornbirn has improved recycling through effective material separation. It operates cleaner production with filtered air that reduces dust, creating a healthier workspace. Thanks to the advanced filtration, the company has also increased its energy efficiency and lowered maintenance, which minimizes wear and reduces downtime and costs.

‘The Matho system has significantly improved our trim handling efficiency. The ability to separate materials for recycling while maintaining a cleaner production environment has exceeded our expectations,’ said Bernd Schmidle, plant manager at CCL Label Dornbirn.
