Coveris goes virtual
Austrian packaging powerhouse Coveris Group has transformed its Pack Innovation Center (PIC), a technical facility dedicated to research and development launched in July 2020, into an entirely virtual world.
Adding to the Pack Positive Centre in Leeds, UK, the Coveris Pack Innovation Centre represents the second building block of the Coveris forward-thinking initiative centers. Located in Halle, Germany, the PIC provides a central innovation hub in a dedicated space of over 400 sqm. It is equipped with the latest packaging machinery, including thermoformer, traysealer, and form-fill-seal machines, to offer a wide range of industrial trial possibilities enabling on-site testing and immediate validation.
In combination with trials, customized cross-functional training sessions can be run and tailored to individual needs. Coveris’ team of industry experts also provides training sessions on the latest packaging and raw material trends, which is also supported by external expert input in knowledge sharing and developing the packaging of the future.
The center‘s workshop area offers a creative space for exchange, discussion, sharing of knowledge and expertise. It is open for internal training sessions as well as external events.
‘The Pack Innovation Centre is a perfect reflection of our commitment to the world of packaging,’ commented Jakob A. Mosser, CEO Coveris. ‘The center has been designed to add value through all steps of packaging development, from raw material selection to a circular economy logic.’
The newly created 3D program has transformed the PIC into a fully virtual world, allowing to walk around the site with a virtual tour guide and uncover multiple additional functions, experience integrated videos, listen to pre-recorded interviews and discover the latest developments.
‘The Pack Innovation Centre also reflects Coveris' commitment to providing both eco-efficient and high-performance packaging solutions. Using state-of-the-art equipment, we can not only conduct trials on original, industrial packaging machines without blocking customers' production. We can also optimize the packaging material itself to make sure its fully recyclable while preserving its functional properties. This gives us an exciting opportunity to join forces with our customers and work together on designing the packaging of the future in line with our vision of no product waste, no packaging waste, and no operational waste,’ concluded Christopher Tuchscherer, manager of Pack Innovation Centre.
