Herma launches new adhesive for security labels
The new product ensures that seal labels cannot be removed without being destroyed or leaving visible residue on the surface.

Herma has launched 63Spc, a new multi-layer adhesive developed to turn conventional materials into easily applied security or tamper-evident labels by ensuring that seal labels cannot be removed without being destroyed or leaving visible residue on the surface.
Using conventional and, therefore, cost-effective materials for security or tamper-evident labels on many different types of packaging and products is now even easier: Herma has switched its 63S adhesive, which was specially developed for this purpose, from single-layer technology to the advantageous multi-layer technology.
The new adhesive with the designation 63Spc has high internal strength thanks to the multi-layer technology. This practically eliminates the possibility of adhesive bleeding during processing and, therefore, ensures a particularly high level of process reliability.
Despite this, label printers and users do not have to make any trade-offs with regard to the high initial adhesion and extremely high final adhesion.
‘Here too, multi-layer technology allows us to satisfy two seemingly contradictory requirements perfectly,’ said Dr Stefan Kissling, head of adhesive development and special coatings at Herma.
The new 63Spc is characterized by a high final adhesion that seals labels that cannot be removed even from lacquered pharmaceutical packaging and many other polar and non-polar surfaces, such as paper, cardboard and even plastics and steel, without being destroyed or leaving visible residue on the surface.
For several years, the EU directive 2011/62/EU has mandated the use of tamper-evident and anti-manipulation markers for prescription medicines. However, due to its versatile and universal applications, 63Spc is an optimal alternative not only for the pharmaceutical sector but also for other industries where originality, security, and control labels are essential, such as automotive, electronics and food.
The multi-layer adhesive 63Spc is highly resistant to water, hot air and various solvents, and it is also very durable against aging.
The adhesive 63Spc is available with various paper and foil materials. Special label materials, including paper with security features, can also be provided upon request.
