Sonoco listed on DJSI for fifth year in a row
Sonoco has been listed on the 2013/2014 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI), marking the fifth consecutive year it has received the prestigious recognition.
Launched in 1999, DJSI were the first global indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. The indices serve as benchmarks for investors who integrate sustainability considerations into their investment strategies, and provide an effective platform for companies who want to adopt sustainable best practices.
From the assessment, Sonoco received industry-leading scores in operational eco-efficiency, supply chain management and corporate citizenship/philanthropy.
M. Jack Sanders, president and chief executive officer at Sonoco, said: ‘Sonoco has been committed to corporate responsibility and sustainable business practices throughout our 114-year history.
‘As one of only a handful of global packaging companies listed on DJSI World, we understand the importance of reducing the environmental footprint from our global operations, providing a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, providing innovative packaging and recycling solutions to meet our customers' sustainability goals and supporting the communities where we operate by providing ongoing engagement with all stakeholders.’
