Benson Group said it has been focusing on lean manufacturing at the Bardon facility for more than two years, including combining lean manufacturing principles with the Six Sigma business management strategy.

This has resulted in Lean Sigma, which Benson said is a structured program to provide operational improvements. It is managed by David Midgley, operations manager at the Bardon plant.

Business benefits
As an example of the “real-world” effects of the program, in the first year of Lean Sigma, Benson Box said it saw double-digit growth in print production at the Bardon site.

Midgley said: ‘It is a great pleasure to be recognized for our interpretation of this approach to manufacturing.

‘We see Lean Sigma as an essential collection of tools that help us to consistently improve on our many and varied tasks undertaken here – tasks that result in our Bardon team producing 20,000,000 cartons every week.’
