Brazilian flex-pack firm extends Titan relationship

Brazilian flexible packaging materials provider Converplast Embalagens is to take two new Titan ER610 compact slitters, two decades after installing its first Titan machine.

The Titan ER610 slitter can process a wide range of flexible materials including plain, printed, coated or metalized film from 20-200microns, a wide range of laminates and paper from 30-200gsm at speeds up to 450m/min (1,500ft/min). The minimum slit width can be as narrow as 25mm (around one inch).

UK-based Atlas Converting Equipment said it has now sold more than 100 Titan ER610 slitters worldwide, including 12 machines in Mexico, many installations in Chile and Peru, several in Argentina and more recently in Brazil.

The Titan ER610 is available in two web widths, 1,350mm or 1,650mm, with a maximum rewind diameter of 610mm. It also features a 10in touch screen control system and an integral edge-trim extraction system. The pneumatically controlled braking system provides accurate web tension control and a digital edge-guide system controls lateral movement of the unwind reel to +/- 50mm. Slitting systems available include shear knives, rotary razor or razor slitting in air or groove. Optional features include an anti-static control system, laser core positioning and a new option for shaftless unwind roll pick-up from floor.

Converplast Embalagens installed an SR6 series slitter rewinder in the early 1990s, and already has one 1,350mm ER610 installed at the end of 2010.

The company’s operations include gravure printing, laminating and slitting and rewinding, and it has become one of the leading converters of flexible packaging materials in Brazil supplying many large customers in the food, pharmaceutical, personal care and home care industries.

Mauro Murer (pictured on the left), industrial director at Converplast Embalagens, said: ‘When we considered our recent programme of investment, we wanted a slitting solution which would provide high-quality product and operating efficiency. We were so impressed with the demonstration of the ER610 slitter that we had no hesitation in placing the order with Titan. Its compact design, high-performance and advanced technology was a perfect solution for us.’

President Victorio Murer (pictured on the right) said: ‘The Titan ER610 slitter has enabled us to achieve very high slitting quality for our customers. In fact, we decided to further modernize our slitting operations this year and increase our capacity further with the addition of two more 1,350mm-wide Titan ER610 slitters, which will be installed before the end of this year.’

Atlas launched the new Titan SR9-DT slitter rewinder at the recent ICE Europe 2011 converting exhibition. Read about it here or see photos of the machine being demonstrated to converters here.
