Ukrainian printer grows with Omet

- Press installed in 2011
- In-line production allowing converter to challenge offset specialists for business
Kiev-based Sistema-Invest is using an Omet Varyflex V2 press to help it increase productivity and meet the demands of the country’s pharmaceutical market.
The Varyflex press is being used for the in-line production of folding cartons for the competitive pharmaceutical sector in Ukraine.
Packaging for the pharmaceutical industry is particularly complex in Ukraine because of strict regulations related to packaging techniques, shelf-life of the package and hygiene.
Any printing company must ensure 100 percent quality control over all processes starting from the choice of substrate and its proper atmospheric storage, through to printing and finishing.
As such, pharmaceutical packaging must be rigid, with the correct authentication, microbial, mechanical and atmospheric resistance, and should offer a 100 percent guarantee for color match, repeatability and aesthetic look.
Sistema-Invest was founded in 2005 to meet these requirements, whilst also serving other industries like the food and beverage markets with the production of folding cartons, self-adhesive labels and instruction booklets.
The Omet Varyflex V2 installed at Sistema-Invest (pictured, top) is configured for in-line folding carton production, and has a 530mm web width, six UV flexographic printing units, one cold foil moveable to any position along the press and two die-cutting units to perform both cutting and creasing, as well as Braille embossing functionality.
In addition, the machine is equipped with the automatic register control system Vision-1.
Omet said this configuration means the only process left to complete off-line is gluing, with in-line production allowing the company to compete for business against traditional offset printers and target a 20 percent increase in its production volumes per year.
With the installation of the Varyflex V2, and thanks to the company’s technological expertise in carton packaging, Sistema-Invest has also been able to widen its product portfolio and respond to specific requests such as high productivity, flexibility and quality.
