Abbott Label invests in Grafotronic SCF
Abbott Label, a US-based family run trade-only label manufacturing company has invested in Grafotronic’s SCF Super Compact to expand its digital finishing capabilities.
Abbott Label, established in 2000, operates four manufacturing facilities in Atlanta, Illinois, California, and Texas. In 2015 the company invested in digital technology and four years later expanded its digital capabilities in Dallas with a UV inkjet press. To take full advantage of the potential of the new digital press they began to look for a suitable digital finishing technology.
‘We needed a machine that not only has a compact size and will perfectly fit in our manufacturing facility, but also is able to finish digitally printed labels and keep up the pace with the inkjet machine,’ said John Abbott, president of Abbott Label.
With this in mind, after an extensive review of several digital finishing manufacturers, Abbott Label selected Grafotronic as its partner and invested in an SCF Super Compact finishing machine.
‘We use only the premier suppliers, either it is press manufacturer, die-maker, material manufacturer or ink vendor. Grafotronic not only provides the highest quality solutions, but is doing it at a competitive price, added Abbott. ‘The Grafotronic machine can run a full varnish or spot varnish and has a lamination station, which allows us to not only do long run productions, but even extremely small print runs with variable content.
‘A big advantage of the SCF is the semi rotary die-cutting station that operates with 220 ft/min (70 m/min) speed. SCF satisfies all our requirements, allowing us to remain competitive in the digital marketplace. We purchased the additional sheeter stacker unit, giving us sheeting ability for digitally produced labels. The machine has been very responsive and easy to work with. The machine is reliable, easy to operate and we are happy that we chose this model.’
Abbott Labels has been investing heavily into its production lines this year. It has recently increased workflow efficiencies with an ABG turret rewinder and expanded its production capabilities with a Domino N610i press.
